With a busy week ahead both on and off the blog — our M-Braves series preview debuts above the fold tomorrow, while the MLB Draft starts tonight — we just couldn’t forget the Friday Leftovers. With highlights pouring in from all corners of the country, we’ll look at the work of Blue Wahoos players past and present while touching on other national stories. So break out the Ziploc bags and get ready for this week’s Leftovers:

Speedster Hamilton strikes again

Wahoos fan may recall a historic day game in Pensacola as Billy Hamilton sliced a base hit into right-center field and rode the wind to four bases. Well, the Louisville Bats’ starting center fielder replicated the feat on Monday with his tenth career home run and fourth(!) inside-the-park round-tripper. If you have fifteen seconds to kill, that’s roughly seven-tenths more than you’ll need to watch Hamilton score:

Compare that to last year’s mark, which occurred in 13.8 seconds. (Sidebar: think about the skill it takes to record enough inside-the-park home runs in your career to require analysts to distinguish between times.)

Sixteen innings in Seattle

In one of the most stupefying major league games to date, the Chicago White Sox defeated the Seattle Mariners 7-5 in sixteen innings. Deadspin reports on the record-breaking game with absolutely incredible statistics courtesy of ESPN. Did you know that despite the twelve runs exchanged between the two teams, neither Chicago nor Seattle struck until the fourteenth inning? Or that Chicago manager Robin Ventura actually left the game early? Writer Tom Ley has the rest of the story.

Local star projected for early rounds

PNJ.com’s Brady Aymond gives us the story of Gulf Breeze High School graduate Ben Lively as he anticipates a high selection in this week’s draft. Taken in the twenty-sixth round in the 2010 merry-go-round, Lively opted for the University of Central Florida instead, and the results have paid off. Boasting a 21-8 career record and 3.06 earned run average (both of which rank in the school’s all-time top ten), the local star has climbed the leaderboards as we head into the homestretch. You can follow the draft proceedings at MLB.com.

Big League Wahoos

Didi Gregorius, ARI: The standout shortstop has hits in his last five games, as well as seven of his last eight, as he continues to dominate with the Arizona Diamondbacks. His marks for batting average (.317), on-base percentage (.380), and slugging percentage (.493) rank among the top five for all rookies, as do those of former Lookout Yasiel Puig.

Donald Lutz, CIN: Lutz continues to maintain a limited role as Derrick Robinson finds more time in the Reds’ lineup as of late. The two-year Wahoos outfielder is 2-for-7 in his last four games, recording a hit in Tuesday’s start.

Pedro Villarreal, CIN: Throwing one perfect inning of relief in a cup of coffee last season, yesterday’s spot start was anything but. In a tough break and lopsided loss to the Rockies, the Wahoos’ 2012 Opening Day starter allowed six earned runs on ten hits, including three home runs. He left the game after 3.2 innings and wound up with the hard-luck decision following a 12-4 defeat.
